Baby’s first spoon set for starting solids

Learning to use a spoon starts before your baby can scoop. theFirst™ Baby’s Spoon Set includes two silicone dipping spoons, also called pre-spoons, and a narrow, shallow scooping spoon. The dipping heads hold purée in their openings, so there’s no need to balance food on a spoon.

♥︎ Three different spoon designs: Step 1’s open lattice releases food easily. Step 2’s denser lattice holds food a little longer for more tongue practice. Step 3 introduces a spoon bowl for learning to scoop.
♥︎ Made for little hands: short handles are easy to hold, with finger grooves on Step 3 to help guide the spoon bowl facing up.
♥︎ Use either side: both dipping spoons work either way up. All three can be pre-loaded for your baby.
♥︎ Practical MealGuard™: keeps loaded spoon heads off the tray, gives hands a stopping point and catches some drips.
♥︎ Sensory textures: raised flowers and ridges to explore with fingers and mouths.
♥︎ Platinum LFGB silicone: dishwasher and steriliser safe.
♥︎ Heart-shaped loop: attach a suitable spoon strap. Strap not included.
♥︎ Designed by Brightberry in Australia.

For starting solids from around six months, when your baby is ready. Move between the spoons to suit your baby and the food, there’s no strict order.

Three lavender baby training spoon tools labeled Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3, arranged diagonally on a white background with callout text describing narrow spoon, denser lattice, and open lattice features.

Three spoons. Three steps.

Step 1: First Dip
For those very first tastes. The open lattice releases food easily when your baby puts it in their mouth. Dip it into food or load it for them, ready for little hands to take over.

Step 2: Dip & Explore
The closer lattice holds food a little longer, inviting your baby to use their tongue more to get it off. A different way to explore food as they practise feeding themselves.

Step 3: Self-Feed
A narrow, shallow spoon bowl for little mouths, ready for learning to scoop. Gentle finger grooves help guide their hold with the bowl facing up. Load a spoonful for them or let them have a go themselves.

You can pre-load all three spoons. Move between them to suit your baby and what’s on the menu.

Why start with a pre-spoon?

Your baby wants to hold the spoon, but getting food onto it is another skill to learn. Our two dipping spoons let them join in before they can scoop for themselves.

Dip the flower-shaped head into purée or mashed food, or load it for your baby. Food collects in the openings, and either side can face up. These are called pre-spoons: a simple way to offer first tastes without needing to balance food in a spoon bowl.

Small details, big difference

MealGuard™ keeps food off the table when you set a pre-loaded spoon down, stops little hands from dipping into the food, and helps catch drips before they run down the handle.

Sensory texture for hands and gums. Raised flowers give little fingers texture to feel, with no wrong way up on Steps 1 and 2. Wavy ridges at the handle ends help soothe sore gums.

Finger grooves on Step 3 gently guide how your baby holds the spoon with the bowl facing up.

The heart-shaped loop allows you to attach a suitable spoon strap. Strap not included.

Designed by a mum who’s also an industrial designer

Made for starting solids, from first dip to self-feeding

I’m Mateya, mum of two. Babies starting solids want to feed themselves long before they can scoop. I made theFirst™ Spoons to let them do it from the very first dip.

Every part has a purpose, right down to MealGuard™, which keeps food off the table when you set a loaded spoon down.

Your questions, answered

A little help with choosing, using and caring for your product.

What is a pre-spoon?

A baby pre-spoon holds food in openings rather than a spoon bowl, so your baby doesn’t need to keep it level. theFirst™ Steps 1 and 2 are dipping pre-spoons: dip them into purée or mashed food, or load them for your baby. Either side can face up.

What age is theFirst™ for?

It is designed to be introduced from around six months, when your baby is developmentally ready to start solids. Readiness matters more than an exact birthday.

Do I need to use the spoons in order?

No. Step 1’s open lattice releases food easily, Step 2 has a denser lattice, and Step 3 introduces a spoon bowl for scooping. You can move between them and keep using earlier steps whenever they suit.

Can I pre-load the spoons for my baby?

Yes. Dip or load a little food onto any of the three theFirst™ spoons, then offer it to your baby to hold and bring to their mouth. They don’t need to scoop for themselves to get started. Always supervise your baby while eating.

Are the spoons dishwasher and steriliser safe?

Yes, theFirst™ spoons are dishwasher and steriliser safe. Wash before first use and after each meal. Check before each use and replace at the first sign of damage.

What are the spoons made from?

theFirst™ baby spoons are made from LFGB platinum silicone. Free from BPA, BPS, PVC, phthalates and lead.

How are theFirst™ spoons different from Brightberry’s self-feeding spoons?

theFirst™ set includes two dipping pre-spoons and a small scooping spoon for the early stages of starting solids. All three have short handles sized for little hands, keeping the spoon head closer to your baby’s grip as they practise bringing food to their mouth.

Brightberry’s self-feeding spoons have longer, reinforced handles for scooping and parent-assisted feeding. You can use both sets alongside each other as your baby learns.

If you prefer just one set, choose Brightberry’s self-feeding spoons; they can be used from starting solids through the toddler years and beyond.
